Spiral

A new metaphor for the state of emotions came to me the other day. Often, people describe emotions and your state of well being as going across a line, ebbing and flowing between that equilibrium from right to left and back left to right. I am proposing a new way to think of this: as a spiral. It’s multidimensional. It’s complex; just like us and just like our emotions. Human nature is not simple. And it’s way less simple than it was a thousand years ago. There are so many factors to what might cause us to feel one way or another. So, naturally, we can’t feel two things if they are on opposite sides of the spectrum, but if instead we could weave through, it would make sense to be feeling two opposite emotions at once.
