Embrace the Quiet

I go through waves of not being able to leave my home without my headphones in and either my new favorite song qued up ten times or a new podcast episode itching to teach me something. But recently I have been embracing walking without something playing in my ears. And it’s been refreshing.

Refreshing is probably an understatement. I feel present. I can take in my surroundings and my obersvations land inside me. They don’t wash over. The walk doesn’t become a faint memory I can’t recall when recanting my day to someone. Instead, I have pictures on my phone of the palm trees swaying, yellow flowers popping, a couple walking hand in hand. The things I would have never really taken in and acknowledged if I was focused on what was playing through my headphones. God bless air pods the noise cancelling feature can be a savior, but for now, I am saving that for those long airplane rides.

My walks are for me and my dreams and my eyes to take in the wonderment of the world around me.
