This Season
My lack of fig knowledge surpassed me this weekend. I did not know there were green figs. Not only did I not know that, but I didn’t realize how juicy and sweet they were compared to black mission figs. This lead me down a rabbit hole of finding out more about figs. So here are a quick few things to know about figs (aka. ficus carica):
There are over 800 types of figs but we commonly eat 12 or so of those varieties as humans.
Fiber rich food!
aka. healthy digestion.
Packed with nutrients and minerals (vitamin K, potation, calcium, iron, and magnesium).
Tons of antioxidants !
One of the oldest fruits on earth.
Fig trees can grow to be more than 100 feet tall.
If you thought prunes were packed with fiber, I present you, the fig.
Figs have more fiber per ounce than prunes.
Basically, they’re a powerhouse of a food packed in a tiny teardrop shape that bursts with flavor.
My phone captured the picture and defaulted to ‘portrait’ mode and I would say this is a divine portrait of a green fig I had yesterday.
